Just uploaded a few shots that I did recently for Electric Sun Tanning Salons. A few were done with one of the girls who works there and then two shots of one of the beds. It’s a beautiful tanning salon and if that’s your thing, I’d definitely recommend checking it out. They have a new website coming soon and a commercial that will be airing in the next few weeks.

Shooting was a lot of fun because it presented some really big challenges. Lighting was either very dim when the tanning bed lights were off or very extreme with the lights on. This definitely created plenty of issues since I was only using a single flash. Not only that, but it also made shooting a bit hasty because you can’t keep your eyes open very long with the tanning bed lights on (something about burned retinas) and you get very hot, very fast. Tough for the person modeling. Besides the lighting, the rooms in tanning salons are small and even with a 17mm lens on a full frame camera, it was hard sometimes fitting the whole subject in. Shooting a person that wide also isn’t ideal so finding a balance of showing off the equipment and getting the model in the shot with a longer lens added more complexity.

The end results turned out very good in my opinion. I had to use photoshop for color correction in certain shots, but that was about it. This was also the first shoot using my 5D and L lenses and I couldn’t be happier with how they performed.
