Super Bowl XLIV

South Florida is being overrun by Saints and Colts fans eagerly awaiting kickoff this evening. It’s hard not getting amped about the Super Bowl when it’s being hosted 20 minutes away from you. Even with the hectic week I’ve had – family in town, moving, and work – I couldn’t help but feel the mounting excitement for today. Also, I’m happy to say that I’ve given in to the “Who Dat” nation and will be cheering whole heartedly for the New Orleans Saints today, probably at the Saints bar that’s up the street. I’m sure it’ll be absolute chaos – Mardi Gras comes early to Fort Lauderdale this year.

I love my AirTunes. It’s built into my Airport Express router and allows me to plug in speakers and stream my iTunes through the connected speakers instead of just playing it through the computer. But there is a flaw. The only thing I can stream is iTunes – no Pandora, no Blip.Fm – just iTunes.

Enter Airfoil.

Airfoil

Airfoil lets you stream audio through connected speakers, other computers, and other Apple products…all in sync. Simple and amazing.

I use it mostly for streaming internet radio and that alone is worth the $25 price tag.

Rogue Amoeba – Airfoil

One of my goals for this year was to simplify my life. It’s the end of January and I’m about to make another major step towards that goal, reducing my living area.

Currently I live in a pretty large two bed, one bath in Victoria Park. It’s a little over 1,000 square feet and was completely renovated before I moved in…jacuzzi, three shower heads, huge open kitchen, tile and wood floors, views of the water and Port Everglades…awesome.

When I moved in, almost two years ago, I was in a very different situation, personally and professionally, and hadn’t really planned on occupying that much space by myself. When my initial lease ran out, I stayed, it was a nice apartment and I was afraid of making big changes in my life.

Fast forward seven months.

One career ended and that has been the perfect catalyst to affect change in other aspects of my life, namely, my living arrangements. As of today, I’m switching from the large bachelor pad to a much smaller garden apartment.

It’s quaint. It’s only a one bed, one bath apartment. The kitchen is small and the closet space is even smaller. But, it’s in a great location for walking and it has a small patio that backs up to one of the many canals in Fort Lauderdale. And the landlord is an Auburn alum, even better.

I’ve worked it out so that I can move things over at my own pace, this way I can decide what I can live without and what I can’t. Because of the size limitations I’ll probably be selling or giving away quite a lot. I hope Goodwill is ready. The thought of it still freaks me out a bit, but it also makes me extremely happy – getting completely organized, eliminating clutter, and simplifying my life – one square foot at a time.

Miami Caliente - Lingerie Football League

This past Friday, my friend and fellow Twitterer, Jonathan invited me to hit up the last home game of the Miami Caliente. If you aren’t familiar with the Miami Caliente, don’t worry, not many people are…but maybe they should be since it is Miami’s own lingerie football team.

That’s right fellas, a bunch of fit ladies, scantily clad, playing football. I had heard of the Lingerie Football League a few times this year, but always just brushed it off. Now, after attending a game, I have to say it was really a completely repeatable experience. The girls are vicious, there is no other way to put it. They were knocking the hell out of each other. At one point I saw a girl try to step on another girl’s head or maybe she was kicking it, I dont know, but it was awesome.

Throughout the video you will hear me cackling like an idiot, but I couldn’t help it. The whole spectacle was hilarious – from the jacked up guys in their Affliction shirts eating little ice cream popsicles to player wardrobe malfunctions to us getting pieces of cardboard signed…great times.

Let’s review the night through video….

As some of you might know, I’ve been in Virginia since Saturday for business and what not. Today I had some free time and I had planned on doing some photography in downtown Lynchburg, but the weather didn’t cooperate so I headed up to the Blue Ridge Parkway to bond with nature for a bit.

This is the second week in a row that myself, Evan, and Craig (the pizza expert) have met up to grab some pizza. This week we set out to review The Lodge in Boca after a tip from another Boca local, Joel Kodner.

The quick rundown: cool atmosphere, good beer, horrible pizza, decent fries. A more comprehensive review will be up on worstpizza.com soon, but for now, enjoy the video.

But seriously, don’t be a douchebag like Kanye, text “Yele” to 501501 to donate $5 to Haiti or visit Yele.org to make a larger contribution.

I was browsing through files the other night and ran across some old work for a Genetic Ethics class I took in college. It was one of the last courses I took and my favorite. I still have my papers from it, as well as this slide show on age retardation. When I originally gave this as a presentation in 2006, it spanned over an hour and a half, so I apologize if it seems a bit incomplete now.

Since it was a slide show, when I converted into a movie the slides moved rather fast. I tried to slow it down, but if you want to read the full text, you will still have to make use of the play/pause button.
